The Lion of Lucerne Vandalized. Several suspects arrested. Officials roaring mad.
A historic monument was vandalized in Switzerland this evening. The damage was discovered quickly judging by the still smoldering embers of burning refuse as well as the remains of small animals that are as of yet unidentified.
Trash, spray painted graffiti, and expired food was strewn about the monument and filling the lake the massive lion rests above, but the worst of the damage was done to The lion itself.
The lion’s right paw was chiseled out and broken off. The more exposed left paw, face, and lettering were left unharmed perhaps because the vandals were discovered in the act.
When witnesses arrived on the scene and contacted the authorities several armed individuals dressed in makeshift riot gear and carrying hammers, chisels, torches began threatening the crowd but could not flee the scene before authorities arrived and arrested several still unnamed individuals.
It is unclear whether everyone involved was apprehended but minutes later a social media presence on several platforms @dreamwolves claimed responsibility for the attack in the name of freedom. There is still no elaboration as to a motive, but several cryptic past posts point to an anarchistic philosophy.
Notably the Swiss government announced several new travel restrictions and lockdown protocols just hours before the attack leading many to suspect the attack is in retaliation.
Cleanup and restoration of the monument has been promised by the Swiss government but the ailing Swiss economy, food shortages, lack of laborers skilled in archaic restoration processes, and the growing medical crisis make a timeline for this impossible to predict. For now the monument is a crime scene and another reminder that even the precious relics of our history are not safe from TAP.
